Photos of Dinner and Code at Geekdom
Have you heard of Geekdom yet? It is a collaborative, coworking space located here in San Antonio, Texas. As their mission statement says, their goal is to “provide an environment where we empower and inspire innovators in order to transform our world for the better.”
Geekdom hosts a variety of events for professionals, entrepreneurs and students who are interested in networking with others in their field, while simultaneously improving their skillset and sharing ideas. A few weeks ago I was hired to take photos of an event held at Geekdom called Dinner and Code: Software Is People, organized by David Daescheler, CEO of SlideWave, LLC.
Dinner and Code offers aspiring coders the opportunity to learn in a more laid-back, beginner-friendly environment, without the pressure one might expect to find in a classroom setting. And, as you may have guessed by the name, each Dinner and Code event includes good food, insightful speakers and ample time to network or team up with a potential mentor. The goal is to get coders comfortable with asking questions, working together on projects, and overcoming the various hurdles on their path to fluent software development.
The Dinner and Code event that I attended had several speakers, each one an expert on different areas of the industry. There were presentations on user experience, front-end development, project management and more. I found each one to be incredibly insightful. What was even more encouraging was hearing from all of the curious minds in attendance; there were plenty of comments and questions after each presentation!
I believe events such as these bring tremendous value to the coding community here in San Antonio. For those who may be interested, the next Dinner and Code event will be held on January 28. To learn more about attending, visit their website: dinnerandcode.com.
