Whether you’re a native to San Antonio or have lived here only a few years, I’m sure you’ve noticed the numerous unique and colorful events that our city puts on each month. We’re a small town with a big, fun heart! And at the heart of San Antonio is the San Antonio Food Bank, whose mission it is to fight hunger throughout Southwest Texas through food distribution, assistance programs, education and advocacy. Its work is truly invaluable to the community.

The San Antonio Food Bank frequently hosts events that are not only impactful, but incredibly fun too, bringing together people from across the community to work toward a common goal. In November, the Food Bank had its annual Runway event, “where fashion meets compassion.” I had the pleasure of taking photos of Runway 2016 and experiencing what this organization is all about.

Runway is best described as a ladies night out, featuring gourmet food, wine tastings, vendors from a variety of local boutiques, as well as a designer runway fashion show! The event was held at the San Antonio Food Bank Warehouse, which was transformed into a hip and trendy space for attendees to enjoy. The Food Bank staff, compassionate volunteers, and many hard-working sponsors all came together to organize and successfully put on Runway 2016.

Whether you live in San Antonio or not, I highly encourage you to learn more about the amazing work that the San Antonio Food Bank does, along with its upcoming calendar of events, by visiting its website. There are many people in our community who count on the Food Bank and the amazing work they do. Did you know that 36 percent of those who receive emergency food assistance from this group are children? In fact, one in four children in San Antonio doesn’t know when their next meal will be.
